Position Overview:

  • This is a technical position at a senior level with the Program Team hence the Program Coordinator- Financial Inclusion is responsible for providing programmatic leadership of financial inclusion of the Livelihoods for the Poor. The program objective is increased access to enhanced rural livelihood opportunities for the ultra-poor and most vulnerable women, through access to financial information, financial services and products including insurance, access to markets and access to productive assets.
  • The Program Coordinator drives programmatic financial product innovation, linkage with banks, financial institutions, in partnership and program development with Government and other stakeholders, ensures adequate value addition for rural livelihood opportunities and the quality management of all financial knowledge and services.
  • The position requires strong awareness of various gaps and opportunities in the financial inclusion sector, identification and networking with stakeholders, relationship with banks. Also, support and guide other teams as required in delivery of technical assistance, institutional assessments, and capacity building of partners’ alliance.


Principal Functions: (Tasks and Activities by Output)

Output 1: The Financial Inclusion Coordinator shall lead financial inclusion strategy and prepare financial inclusion strategy that supports the overall objective of the project “Promoting Rural Livelihoods through Transformative Financial Inclusion.”


  • Responsible to contribute in developing the financial inclusion approach and strategy for rural women living under ultra-poverty and extreme poverty.
  • Develop, present and follow-up on significant number of financial products with banks, financial institutions and Government institutions to meet the needs of rural women. Represent the organization effectively and support business development efforts for the flagship inclusive Finance India Platform and its sub-initiatives.
  • Conduct focused stakeholder briefings on the financial inclusion development strategy, updating it into a livelihood work plan for 2016-2018 to achieve the outputs required in the result matrix.
  • Strategize, guide and monitor programs on financial literacy campaign in rural areas Support planning and execution of the annual Inclusive Finance Workshop.
  • Consistent communication with sectoral stakeholders including relevant departments in the central and state governments, donors, investors, banks, Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), Bank Correspondents (BC) and their networks, technical agencies etc.
  • Effectively represent the organization in sectoral forums.


Output 2: Develop and Develop and implement financial inclusion capacity strengthening program.


  • Conduct detailed training on the proposed financial programme strategy and implementation plan as per approved project.
  • Support the livelihoods specialists to conduct the livelihood planning processes through financial inclusion lens and identify livelihood priorities through market system and value chain.


Output 3: Monitor the financial inclusion program effectiveness through effective bank linkages and accessibility financial product services through savings, remittance, credit and insurance and financial inclusion reporting procedures.


Develop a set of performance indicators to be included in the project monitoring framework by:

  • Ensuring that adequate financial products and service information are provided to rural women participants against which to measure changes banking habits of rural women, improvements in livelihood initiative, and developing physical implementation targets and performance indicators based on the work plans.
  • Ensuring that the required monitoring and reporting systems are incorporated into the project performance monitoring system (PPMS), and that the project reporting and monitoring data bases are populated and regularly updated.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international development best practices, innovations in livelihood approaches through transformative financial inclusion, women’s empowerment, and related areas.


Output 4: Build partnership and networking.


  • Actively and appropriately represent Trickle Up in India at relevant meetings, workshops and forums
  • Build strategic partnerships with Government of India, Government ministries, State Governments, non-state actors, INGOs, LNGOs, CBOs, Corporate, UN and institutional donors.



  • MBA/ Post graduate in Finance/ Economics from a reputed University/ Business School
  • Experience in the Financial Inclusion/ Microfinance sector (MFI, BC, Bank, Insurance Company, NGO, Investor/ Donor, Rating/ Technical/ Research Agency etc.)
  • Good knowledge about and exposure to policy and operational issues in financial inclusion.





  • Minimum 10 years of experience, significant experience (minimum 5 years) in a senior project management role in the field of rural economic and livelihood development.
  • Proven capacity to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of rural poverty in Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
  • Understanding of and experience in financial inclusive development, particularly related to women.
  • Experience working at the district and village levels.
  • Good MS Office skill (word processing, spread sheets, power point and internet applications).


Desired Profile:

Ideally, candidates for this role would have an MBA and minimum of 10-years of mid to senior level experience in the financial services or strategy field, with substantial time spent in relationship management with banks at various levels, knowledge about banking products, banking solutions, electronic banking, payment system knowledge, and digital solutions.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to travel to rural communities, at times with only very basic amenities.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.


Salary and benefits:

Salary and benefits for the position will commensurate with qualification, experience and last drawn salary. Maximum CTC (Cost to Company) per annum shall be Rs. 9 lakh per annum for this full time position.
